Merton College has opened its Law Essay Competition to encourage Year 12 state school students to consider studying Law at Oxford.The essay title is: “The rich should be obliged to give to the poor because they don't deserve what they have.” All submitted essays will be reviewed by an Oxford academic.
Several colleges and departments of the University of Oxford run competitions which are open to students from schools and colleges.
Preparing an entry for one of these competitions is a valuable experience for academically motivated students so please do encourage your students to enter.

Following his death in January 2018, the Sir Henry Brooke Essay Prize seeks to honour the legacy of Sir Henry Brooke, a former Court of Appeal judge who became a tireless campaigner during retirement on issues including access to justice.
Within essays we are looking for clarity of structure, argument, and style, and effective use of relevant information and ideas.
The winners will have their essays published on the Merton College website, and will be invited to join us for our Merton Pre-Law Residential.
